Sunscreen is an essential part of keeping one’s skin health, but can just as easily be damaging our environment.
The Heareticus Environmental Lab (HEL) has designed a “Protect Land and Sea Certification” program for companies to run their products through and get the certified as environmentally friendly.
The program is focusing on a list of harmful ingredients that are causing natural pollution and harming the wildlife. Unfortunately, the list of chemicals is present in many of our favourite sun care products, whiteout any disclaimer of the impact they can have on the environment. This is where the consumer can take matters into their own hands and choose which brands and products to use based on their ingredient list and its impact.
Here is a list of harmful chemicals that HEL has created:
UV Chemicals:
  • Oxybenzone
  • Octinoxate
  • 4-methylbenzylidene-camphor
  • Octocrylene
  • Para-aminobenzoic acid
  • Methylparaben
  • Ethylparaben
  • Propylparaben
  • Butylparaben
  • Benxylparaben
  • Triclosan
Choosing skin care free of those ingredients is not only good for the environment but for one’s health as well. Majority of these chemicals have been linked to skin diseases and can have lasting negative effects on one’s health.
Skin is our biggest organ and a gateway to our body and our vital organs. What we put on our skin is important not only for the skin but for our general well being. Consider organic sun care on your next vacation.
